WARFECT - Exoneration Denied (2013)

WARFECT-Exoneration Denied

Justice has plenty of faces. Several are a mere mockery of society's facial expression and unbearable disarray. On the other hand, justice can be serving and true, emitting sentences that are fair and impartial, reliving the world of terrible criminal diseases and human made plagues. But this is Metal, the justice system is always blind (or not willing to see past what is in front of it), seizing the lives of the innocents, grasping for unlimited power and in a way committed to spread oblivion and even horrid Death.

"Exoneration Denied", a Thrash Metal alchemy, out of the idle hands of the Swedish desecrators, WARFECT, hailing with their sharp edged number two, is the veneration of wrongful, gone bad and where lessons needs to be taught. Newly signed to Cyclone Empire, WARFECT share their admiration and worship to various old Thrash icons as SLAYER, SEPULTURA, SODOM, KREATOR, early MEGADETH and early METALLICA, administering a rather traditional attacking formulation of blood boiling Thrash while intersecting with Speed Metal admonitions. Beware of the judge's wooden hammer, upheaving your next denial.

Right from the get go and onwards, I considered that one of the album's greatest qualities is its sound engineering. Clearing streaming a joint ventured sound pre-set of mid to late 80s crispy and highly addictive sound signatures of the bands I mentioned above, the band's new material received quite a boost. No doubt that vocalist / guitarist Fredrik Wester (Engineering and Mixing) along with ex-LORD BELIAL's Andreas Backelin (mastering), found the rightful echoes and resonances for this band and were able to come up with modern type mix of an old school razor shrill cutter. But as most of you know, it is the material the counts after all.

Generally, though it crossed my mind for a little while, "Exoneration Denied" seemed like a nice fair. WARFECT appeared quite enthusiastic and tight playing compositions and riffages that more than just hinted of a SLAYER infatuation. Sure there were those extravagant nurtured "Beneath The Remains" type speedy gritty rifferies that caused a serious havoc with their violent manner, which were far from being genuine, yet those kept my blood flowing fast and kept my bewilderment regarding my thoughts. Furthermore, I found out, after a few tracks, that there is plenty of conviction and fine displays of skilled instrumental playing, yet it didn't seem to me that WARFECT were looking for something else other than preserving the past while aligning their songwriting accordingly.

I admired the combination between the blackish sorts of mid to high end growls demonstrated by creepy Wester, which also provided great guitar playing and masterful Jeff Hanemann driven soloing, and the rhythm guitaring clouting the SLAYER influenced rhythm section. Believe me that "Exoneration Denied" is not a copied buzz, or proving that WARFECT are pretending to be something they are not, on the contrary, this album chops and slices just as the old school ones once did in their blackened and utterly metallic past. I guess that you would have to witness that mayhem yourself, trying the conquering figure of "Roman Disfigure", rise of the hammer on "Exoneration Denied", the craving for blood of "Slit with Razor" and of the no man's land finishing touch of "Pried from Earth". To keep it short, this may not be a unique Thrash figure, some would think of it as a SLAYER famished folks looking to continue a legacy not their own, but it is wrong as WARFECT have been on to various examples, ranging influences from various type of Thrash onslaughts and paralleling them together into their own crafty piece of vengeance. Check out this craving.
