Kit Chan - Don't Make Me Hate
This is probably the album which will put Kit Chan's career back on track again. The title song, a power ballad, certainly sounds like it's tailor-made to shoot up the pop charts. It has enough melodic twists-and-turns to provide a full workout for Chan's turbo charged singing while its '90s, post-feminist sentiments suit her strong-spirited image to a T. Pity is, with such a powerful opening, it's tough for the rest of the album to measure up. Especially on 'Mr Turner', the sole English track (penned by Chan herself) on this Mandarin album. The tune sounds exotically 'new age' but its lyrics unfortunately lapse into embarassing platitudes: "I told ya you don't have to worry / That life's just like a day / And growing up was sunrise / And growing old was sunset." Clearly, lyric-writing isn't Chan's forté. Compared to her last album, this release is much more market-oriented and listener-friendly
