Lacrimas Profundere - Antiadore (2013) FLAC CUE LOG

Lacrimas Profundere - Antiadore

The future of German gothic metal icons Lacrimas Profundere sounds uncertain after listening to Antiadore, their tenth studio album. The gothic flair of sullen, yet hard-driving riffs accompanied by light melodies that have always encapsulated the band is still here; but I feel that this record sees them going through the motions and doesn’t really offer anything new to fans. A glimpse of change is seen on the album’s opener “My Release In Pain” in the form of harsh vocal and a throwback to the band’s death metal growls of yesteryear, but this is only featured once among a bevy of forgettable filler that sadly comprises most of the album. A few other tracks manage to claw their way out through the dirt like “Abandon” and “Head Held High” but these are sadly nothing new and follow the same formula as their peers in HIM and The 69 Eyes. Nevertheless, fans of those acts should find them satisfying. If there is anything that can be said about this album, it should be said with “All For Nothing” and the closer “A Sigh” which show the band attempting to derive attention away from a dangerously overused formula. I should also note that despite the fact that this album is little more than just another drop in the bucket, “All For Nothing” might simply be one of the best tracks that we’ve heard from this band in years. Yes, Antiadore sounds very much like a band about to hit the wall; but it is uncertain as to whether they will simply turn in another direction, or continue to plow right through it. (Eric May)
