Rain Fell Within - Believe
'Rain Fell Within' was an American symphonic metal band formed in 1996, and broke up in 2002 after the release of their second album. In 2000, they released their debut, entitled 'Believe'. Now, I've reviewed this album before, and I gave it 83/100. Looking back and listening to it again, the question comes up 'what the fuck was I thinking?'. This album is some of the most stagnant and boring music I've every heard. Almost every song is the same, none of it stands out, with the exception of the opening track, 'A False Reality'.
Every song is very melodic, guitars and keyboards setting the atmosphere for the entire album. The music itself is pretty good, but it lacks the depth and intensity bands like 'Within Temptation', or 'After Forever' have. Also, the vocals lack power, body, and control. Dawn Desiree uses a light mezzo soprano vocal style, a lot of the vocal lines are elongated and drone on and on. And she wales, missing note after note. Also the fact that four of the five songs are longer than eight minutes long made the listening experience worse. Now, I don't have a problem with long songs, but the lack of variety and the endless ambiance made it especially hard to finish the album.
Overall, the music is lackluster, there's no variety, but the instrumentation is okay. The songs should not be that long, they're just really repetitive. Dawn does not have a good voice, especially not for this type of music. Just don't buy the album, It's not worth it.
